BUILD A LIFE PROJECTThis project surprised me to say the least. I can’t necessarily say that in a good or bad way, but it made me rethink a lot of things when it came to finances and budgeting. I don’t pay any bills myself right now, but I do have a job and have a decent amount in my savings account so I’d like to think that is at least one thing that I knew prior to doing this project. My starting salary in this project was around $60,000 a year, which seemed like it was barely enough to pass by, especially considering all of the extra expenses I wanted. I don’t think any of the costs surprise me per se, but I didn’t expect it all to add up to that much. The prices of everything make sense in my mind, but the total was definitely more than I expected. However, when I was first doing the calculations and I was overlooking all of the prices I had listed, I thought I would go over my budget. It was honestly a huge surprise to me that I didn’t go over.
This project made me think about my 21st Century Skills, especially Financial, Economic, and Business Literacy Skills. We had to imagine that we were actually in this position where we would have to make a budget, and I don’t think I took it that seriously at first. But, after reflecting, I think I’d put a lot more thought into what decisions I was making. So overall, I think this project was a good experience for me and my peers. I know what things I should be paying attention to in the future now thanks to it. |
