jigsaw readings
In World History, we had an assignment called Jigsaw Readings. For this assignment, we were paired up with someone of our choosing. Each person had to read one article, it was either on The Americas or The Oceania and The Pacific. Each person was to take notes and summarize the article that they read to the best of the ability. Then, they'd read their notes and summary to their partner. After, the partner will write their own summary from the information the other had told them. They are not allowed to read their partners article and must write is solely from the information they were given.
For this project, I was working with one of my friends, Ligaya McClatchey. I found it a lot easier to work with one of my friends on this as it was much easier to communicate with them. I read the article on The Oceania and The Pacific and she read the article on The Americas. We both ended up taking a lot of notes and even had to rush at some point towards the end so we could finish the assignment in time. When we were explaining our articles to each other, I felt as if both of us had gathered a lot of information on the cultures. We both also communicated this information well. As for what I can improve, I'd say the amount of time I took to read the article was more than necessary. Like I said, we had to rush in order to finish in time. If I had read the article quicker, I wouldn't have had to worry about rushing and I'd be able to better gather my thoughts on how to explain the article to my partner. Along with me taking a while to read it also came me taking a lot of notes. I thought I was taking notes that were essential to mention, but as I reviewed them I found some of them not being key points. This project is a great example of the 21st Century Skill of Global Cultures. Because of the fact that I was reading about another culture, I had to take in a lot of information about these cultures. It gave me a deeper and better understanding about Micronesian and Melanesian cultures and I really enjoyed doing this project. It could also represent communications skills due to the fact that I had to communicate with my partner the information that I have gathered myself. |
